Students Study Through Break at USM

»  Comments | Post a Comment

"I'm trying to teach these young people how to write movies. Not necessarily big feature films but I'm teaching them to write for the screen."

And David Sheffield is qualified to educate those students because of an extensive resume.

"I started out at Saturday Night Live. I went straight from Ocean Springs, Mississippi to New York to work on Saturday Night Live as a writer."

That's where he met actor Eddie Murphy.
Sheffield went on to write several movies for Murphy - including Coming to America and The Nutty Professor.

"Not a lot of people make it in that business. The truth is a lot of people aspire to be in show business but very few make it."

That's why Sheffield is back at USM - to teach and inspire current students.

"People who really succeed are the ones that get right back up and keep on going."

Sheffield says USM is a great place to train for success.

"The Communications department is coming right along. They're getting ready to put in a new facility over there at College Hall. Going to have a state of the art recording studio, TV studio."
