A two-vehicle rollover accident in the swamp flats on Lower Myrick Road sent one vehicle into the swamp and the driver to the hospital.
At approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, January 4, volunteer medical first responders and rescue units from M&M, Powers and Glade VFDs responded to the scene of an accident where a Chevrolet S-10 ZR-2 pickup had collided with a Ford F-150 pickup, with three occupants, sending the Ford into the swampy waters.
According to Jones County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) deputy on scene, the Ford pickup was traveling east on Lower Myrick Road and was turning left to park on the opposite side of the road when the Chevrolet pickup, which was also traveling east, tried to pass and plowed into it sending it rolling down the embankment and into the swampy waters where it landed on its roof and was partially submerged in the water with the driver trapped inside. The Chevrolet ended up on the opposite side of the road and the impact of the accident separated the cab of the pickup from its frame.
Volunteer medical first responders and EMTs were able to extricate the seriously injured driver of the F-150 through the shattered back window of the pickup. The driver was transported to SCRMC by EmServ. The other two occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.
According to the JCSD, the driver of the Chevrolet S-10, James M. Warden of Ovett, was uninjured and was escorted to the Jones County Adult Detention Center by the JCSD and charged with driving with a suspended license.
