LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - A Jones County prosecutor is protesting the release of a man convicted of manslaughter and who has not served his full sentence.
Assistant district attorney J. Ronald Parrish tells the Leader-Call (http://bit.ly/v3yqiU) that he received notice this past week of Jason Creel's release.
Creel got 20 years for the 2001 shooting death of William Davis Guy. Creel pleaded guilty in 2004.
Parrish says an inmate convicted of a violence crime should serve his full sentence.
Parrish said the same thing in 2011 when James Michael Reeves who was found guilty of manslaughter in the 2001 deaths of two people was released. Reeves received two 20-year sentences, but only served about eight years.
State Sen. Chris McDaniel, R-Ellisville, says lawmakers should re-evaluate the early release of violent offenders.
