Troop Increase at Camp Shelby

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center is preparing for a troop increase for mobilization and demobilization training starting in the month of February and continuing through April.

Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center will welcome approximately 1,800 Soldiers from the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the New York Army National Guard. The 27th Infantry Brigade includes the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, New York Army National Guard and the 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, South Carolina Army National Guard.

Camp Shelby is welcoming home approximately 3,500 troops during the next few months for demobilization training. We are excited to welcome home members of the 869th Vertical Construction Engineer Company of the Florida Army National Guard and the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.

Troops conducting deployment training will conduct extensive live-fire and maneuver exercises beginning upon their arrival and will continue through March.

Local communities can expect increased traffic along highway US-98 and MS-29 during this period of time.

Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center requests that community members are aware of convoy operations traveling to and from Camp Shelby along highway US-98 and MS-29 and respect the speed limits when sharing the roads with military convoys.
