HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has reopened a case filed against operations of the Forrest County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/zAnc5k) that lawyers for the county and the Southern Poverty Law Center, which brought the lawsuit, are at odds over the naming of an independent monitor. The monitor would keep track of the county's progress on changes at the center.
The county argues that SPLC's choices for a monitor would be too expensive to transport to Forrest County, while the SPLC argues that the county's local choices are under-qualified.
