Protesters held signs Monday afternoon asking for respect for Lumberton Mayor Miriam Holder.
Holder was arrested last Thursday for obstruction of justice.
Police Chief Dennis Hobson says Holder tried to tell him how to do his job after her nephew Jamal Taylor was arrested for burglary.
Hobson was not available for interview Monday afternoon.
"We're here for several reasons. Mainly in support of our Mayor."
Eugene Underwood was among the protesters in front of City Hall.
Underwood says respect for the Mayor isn't the only problem in Lumberton.
"This city can give the city clerk a $3,000 raise and give our new police chief a raise."
Lumberton City Clerk Stephanie Mullings refused to go on camera but says that there have been no raises for her or for Police Chief Hobson.
"We live in a town that's dying. We have no industry here."
Underwood believes that's because the Board of Aldermen blocks all positive proposals from the Mayor.
"We're here on behalf of the citizens of Lumberton. The concerned citizens of Lumberton."
