SUMRALL, Miss. (AP) - Motorists should be a little more careful when driving through Sumrall. Unless they want a traffic ticket, that is.
The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/veUlPs ) the city's police department has written a higher volume of citations since new Chief Chris Dungan took command of the department April 8.
The Sumrall Police Department wrote 353 citations from January through the end of October, compared to 233 in the same period in 2010.
Dungan attributes the spike to an increase in vigilance toward road safety.
The chief said he usually runs a safety checkpoint one night per month, which he says is meant to keep drunken and dangerous drivers off the roads.
