Carolyn Rhodes is part of the Jefferson Davis County Election Commission.
The commission is responsible for updating the voter registration roll as people die or move outside the county and manage poll workers.
"And new poll workers are registered right and in the right precinct."
They also help prepare the ballots.
"We have to make sure the candidates are certified and eligible to be on the ballot."
After the candidates are certified, the state issues the election ballot on a memory card.
"We put that into the machines and make sure the machines are L & A. That's our L & A system."
L & A stand for logic and accuracy.
Rhodes says there are problems with the voting machines sometimes but that overall they work well.
"They are good. You just, everything there's going to be a little bit of trouble in anything mechanical."
She says the biggest problems on election day are with people who want to vote but aren't on the roll.
"People are not on the roll. And they have been taken off because of inactivity."
Rhodes says you're considered inactive if you haven't voted in the past 2 federal elections.
