GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Keesler Air Force Base officials say the base is slated to lose 68 civilian jobs in 2012 as part of mandated cuts affecting thousands of Department of Defense workers.
The cuts at Keesler are part of about 9,000 civilian jobs being eliminated throughout the Air Force.
Since Keesler officials have until April to finalize the moves, The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/sRrpEp ) some of the workers may be able to get other jobs within the Air Force, as positions come open through the increased manpower in other areas, or other workers opting for early retirements.
About 3,600 civilians currently work at Keesler.
