LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - Laurel officials are considering an
"amnesty month" when people will be allowed to pay old fines at a
discounted rate.
Laurel Municipal Court Judge Cecelia Arnold met with city
administrators and members of the Laurel City Council this past
week to discuss the possibility of an amnesty program.
The city of Hattiesburg's municipal court has been conducting a
similar program.
Laurel Councilman Trey Chinn said he likes the idea, according
to the Laurel Leader Call.
Laurel officials have tentatively set the time of the amnesty
program from March 15 to April 15.
Laurel officials say people with outstanding fines for
misdemeanor offenses and traffic citations will be allowed to pay
them at a discounted rate.
