Public Forum: Citizens Talk About Hattiesburg Nightclubs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

"this directly affects my business."

Ralph Bozen is a manager at Nick's Ice House in Hattiesburg.

"in the last year I had to call the police once."

When asked what he thought the city council should do, he said...

"nothing. Keep it the way it exactly is."

Jeanine Bennett agrees.

"there's a lot of bars in town that do not have these problems. That don't have shootings, fights. We don't have to call the police out to a lot of bars in town."

There has been some talk of closing Hattiesburg bars at midnight instead of the current 2AM.

"i don't think I could support closing the bars at midnight."

Councilman Dave Ware requested the public forum.

"it's very early on in the game. In the future we'll look at any and all potential possibilities."

Bozen suggested one possibility.

"some of the bars have a $10 cover where all you can do is drink free and that enables people to get really inebriated.

He suggests doing away with those specials.

"that might prevent some of the fights."

Councilwoman Deborah Delgado says she has already heard that suggestion and is taking it into consideration.
